Default Shaving weight from doors?

Hello,

New to the forums, not new to Camaros . I just got a new project, and after playing with imports for so long(don't kill me) I forgot how heavy the doors are in camaros. I was wondering if any 1/4 mile nuts had any secrets for getting what seems like 100+ lbs. out of those doors. Thanks, and I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

Fiberglass doors, if it's a race only car. Not so safe on a street car though, if you get t-boned.

thats about all i could say as well would be fiberglass doors, if you take your door panels off you will see there is not much to take away from the door itself unless you can get rid of power windows and the actuator for the door locks if you dont mind manually locking your doors, and that is if your camaro is not a factory manual door car

not much weight to be saved unless you are serious about racing and dont mind loosing some street safety

you can drop a few lbs per side by switching inside door panels to sheet aluminium... thats straight up race but you dont loose alot of safety but you could shave 10 lbs maybe. thats a 100th lol

Well, there she is. Minus an engine.

Thanks for the input guys, I figured there wasn't much I could shave. I think Instead of aluminum panels I'm gonna do carbon fiber.

I can understand why. Most carbon fiber available on the market is garbage. Making your own is much more fun

If you have the means and ability to make quality carbon panels for the third generation, you would have a great following of guys/gals wanting your pieces

if you can do it go for it

on a side note is your cowl hood fiberglass? If not there is a good amount of weight to be saved there

Heh,

well I couldn't keep up with supply and demand. I get all the materials from various websites. Plus I can only do pieces that fit in my oven, so I'm somewhat limited. Doing one piece CF calls for BIG ovens, I got to see that whole process at a grand scale, it was pretty cool.

That hood is aluminum, and it will be the first thing to go.....hate that damn thing.

yeah demand would be hard to keep up with

i know for a fact that "stock style" shifter plates(or any dash/console component) would sell like crazy if they were priced under what NOS plastic ones sell for

if i knew how to make carbon fiber pieces i would be changing small broken or burnt(previous owner was an in car smoker) pieces, maybe i will look into it

and aluminum huh.....do you hate the cowl hood or just that the hood is aluminum?
that looks more like the goodmark steel cowl hood to me, but of coarse im only looking at a picture and you actually own the car, if you want stockish look i would look at the 84 Z28 hood, factory fiberglass and functional, pretty neat and can be had for around $50
