Default Removing old headers

I know there are posts about what new headers to get but I'm posting about removing original headers on an '83 with an LG4 engine. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best/least difficult way to remove the old headers? I'm extremely worried about breaking the bolts in the block.

I'm replacing them with an Edelbrock Header Kit for the LG4.

Also Check out the new paint job... let me know what you think... still has to be wet sanded and buffed...I'm pretty new to this forum so any input is appreciated.

You may have a bit of a problem, hopefully high quqlity bolts wee used. But in any event, use plenty of penetrating lube & let it work for a few days. When you put the new headers on, try to get stainless steel hardware.

No original headers on that LG4, just a cast iron maniflod and Y-pipe. After all these years the fastners are going to welded in with rust and are going to be a ***** to get off without breaking. Buy the best product for removing rusted fasteners and keep soaking them. Its not a easy job and I don't even know if its worth the trouble.

I you do use stainless definatly use some kind of lube on the threads. I done a lot of work on trucks with stainless and they like to freeze up as you are putting them on before they even get tight.

Ok so its the wrong hood for the sport coupe but i'd say looks better than with the stock hood... plus it came with the car when i bought it

Here's a pic of the car when I bought it four years ago...when it was brown...and a year later the paint started flaking off the whole car due to a lack of primer on the body from the guy who repainted it last...

Anyway...Thanks for all the advice guys.

Hi Im one of Jons friends that would most likely help with the header swap. My question is how many people have removed manifolds bolts this old with out a issue. I cant imagine that all of you snap the studs off the head. My Idea was let the liquid wrench/ PB blaster soak for a day or so then try removing them with a breaker bar. Ideas ?
