Default rebuilding a master cylinder

i have an 85 z28 and the only thing that i still have to do to make it pass inspection is make sure that the brakes work and i have no pressure in the pedal. im pretty sure its the master cylinder that i have to either rebuild or get a new one and the kit to rebuild it costs like $5 instead of a whole new master cylinder for around $100. has anyone rebuilt their master cylinder before? how easy is it to do? any little tips i should know about doing it?

email me at drygaudet@yahoo.com with answers

thank you everyone i cant wait to stop driving my little 4 banger and get the camaro on the road

Rebuilding a master cylinder is not incredibly hard to do. You have to make sure that you have the proper kit and I really recommend having a Haynes or Chilton's book with you since you've never done this before. Keep the booster in mind as well and buying a new master cylinder is never a bad thing (at least you know that it's new and won't go bad any time soon) and you didn't say if you bled the brakes. Overall the decision is yours to make, I would bite the bullet and buy a new one and keep us updated...

Many times when the master goes bad you will see fluid leaking between the master and the booster. Or you can unbolt it from the booster and see if the back is wet. When you rebuild you have to check the bore and make sure its all good to. The rebuild kit is usualy just some seals and springs
