Default Rebuilding a 305

Ok guys,
I've decided to use the advice from an earlier post and rebuild my 305 using the same parts listed in the post 325 hp from a 305. I was wondering if I'm really gonna see the extra power from rebuilding and using the extreme energy cam, Victor Jr. intake and some Hooker headers? Is this the best way to go or should I swap out the heads also to see all that power?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt, A way to look at this may be to consider that the 305 heads you have now will most likely require some repairs, usually guides, exhaust seats, valves etc...it may be best to consider the investment in those items in terms of the end cost of the better heads....if you're gonna drop $350-400 to get the heads rebuilt, then maybe the cost of heads at for example $800 is a little easier to justify.....

this of course depends on the goals of the project....

another thought is that it is far less expensive to fix it right the first time than to spend more money fixing it right a second time...

just my 2 cents matt...

Good luck on the rebuild

Greg

If you invest in heads, you will reap rewards of power. You can also carry them over to a 350 if you ever decide to go that route.

I suggested that very same thing years ago. I was told that there is SOOOO much milling to do on a 305 block to make it a 350 that BUYING a 350 block will be cheaper.

Search around. Find a 350.......

I dont think the cylinder walls are thick enough to bore it to a 350.

mikes right ... boring that deep you would strike water. even boring .060 over changes the ablility of the 305 to cool itself properly. Sick

Heads are always a good investment. You can put an intake on and get all of the air and gas into the block you want, but better heads will let you use all of that. Don't bore it out. Too many problems can and will occur. Remember, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Best of luck.
