Default Problems with T-5 Tranny

I finally picked up the 88 I bought last week. Overall I am happy with the car. It pulls hard for a 305, but I do have a few problems that I need to fix ASAP.
1. The T-5 Transmission is giving me problems. 1st gear is very difficult to get into, other gears are hard but not as bad as 1st. When going into reverse, it grinds like crazy, so I pretty much have to turn off the car when I need to put it in reverse. Is it the syncros going bad? If so how much would it cost to replace. Or if anyone is selling a T-5 that would be great too.
2. The previous owner cut the springs. It sits real low and looks great but it scrapes on every little bump I roll over. I am guessing I should replace the springs with stiffer, aftermarket springs. How much would that run me?

Thanks for taking your time to read this and helpin me out. -Bill

it may be the clutch out of alignment, common on the t5

also it depends on the company you go with for the springs, i would guess starting at 60 and up, you may want to try to find a good set of used ones with low miles on them

Clutch may be taking a dump. You may end up coming to a stop one day and then not going anywhere in an insatnt.
Check out www.summitracing.com for some lowering springs if you want to keep it that way. Or if you get used dont get them from an Rs or a V6 car. They are weak. I have a Rs with the 305 and of course it had the typical Rs springs. It bounced in and out of drive ways. I put on some lowering Eibachs and it sits about the same hieght as the sagging springs but dont hit anymore. (at least not much)

i also have a t-5. had the same problem you had. sounds like the clutch is going out, but ill tell you what was wrong with mine. WHILE VERY UNCOMMON, here it is. The bolts from my bell houseing to the block were all finger loose and some missing. This made the clutch not fully disengage. I tightened them all up, added ones that were missing and vuala! feel like new. Check your clutch master cylinder and slave for leaks and proper fluid levels. May very well just be low. If it is, standard DOT 3 brake fluid does the trick i believe. good luck
