You might check the smaller wire that runs from the battery to the altenator. I can't remember if there is a fuseible link in it or not. But you might have burnt that wire out. So... your saying. You charge it, then it will run for 15min, shut it off and it won't start. Right? If that's the case it sounds like that wire is bad.

Oh.. and you always install a fuse block when installing audio stuff. Just think how much money it would've saved you.
But you should always hook-up any wiring through the battery(or a circuit after the battery)... it will act like a storage tank for electrical energy. When something takes alot away at a given time. It will not affect the rest of the electrical system as bad.

Is the battery warning light on inside the car? My Chilton reads that if the alt is not producing any current... the light will be on. You might take the alt off and get it checked out.?. I've had bad ones before.
Other than that my Chilton manual isn't any help. It doesn't really give me a troubleshooting guide. That one wire is about all I can think of for now.

Have you checked all your fuse? In the wiring diagrams for an '89RS it shows a tan/white wire comes from the "alt" into the "30amp FAN" in the fuse block. I don't know what it does... Might check if you haven't yet.
