Nitrous and 350 swap
Ive been researching this very subject for weeks! Here goes....you will have 3 options...
1)Junkyard or pulled from a 'running' car. Who knows what your getting. They seem to go for about 250-500 bucks. Be careful if you see them on Ebay, freight will double the cost......
2) Rebuilt- either professionally, from a parts store or shade tree mechanics, anywhere from 700 to 1200 bucks. This is the route you want to take. They are always available, but do your research and stick to your budget.
3) Crate motor or performance crate motor-From Ebay, Summit, Jegs, etc. 1400 bucks to 4500, higher if you want obscene power.
Find a mechanic you know. Most of those guys have a friend of a friend with an extra 350 around.....good luck. And dont waste ANY MORE time with that 305 And if you keep talking about nitrous, we will banish you to the land of imports......[:-]

Hey, don't knock the bottle, man. I was planning to throw a 200 shot on my ride when she gets up over 1200 ft-lbs. Never hurts to have a little more power. But yeah, dropping the bottle on something so weak is pretty worthless, and worthy of an exhaust tip and a carbon fiber hood. Hey! Maybe that's what'll wake that 305 up...
You dont want to invest the money into a 305...looks around for someone getting rid of a 350TPI and have it swapped in, I sold my last 350TPI with 45xxx miles on it for 350 bucks, complete with the TPI system, wiring, everything. You'll find what you need for less than the cost of a new nitrous setup.
allright thanks guys, im most likely going to be looking into getting a 350, but do you know how much a mechanic would charge to put it in. Also, what parts can I take off my 305 (intake, tbi throttle body, ect.) even if i need too. and willIneed to upgrade the computer, with the newcrate if its tpior only if its carb.thanks.
Igot a rebuilt350 4 bolt main truck motor with 5000 miles on itfor free from my boss, he got it for $50 and it included a truck that came with it, it was a junker, just wanted the motor, but you can find them cheap there's so many of them and there alot cheaper engines to upgrade.
There is no point in doing a 350 swap if you are going to put the TBI back on it. While the LO3 heads suck really bad, the TBI sucks just as bad. You need to do a carb swap otherwise you'll be giving yourself a headach.
im useing the stock TBI unit off the original 305 in my RS. I did some research a few weeks ago with the numbers on my block, found the guys who sold it, turned out to be Oriley's ( or whatever it is). Asked them what kind of power that thing is putting out and they said 320 or so. Granted it might not have been that much with the restricting TBI on it, with the headers, cat, and full exhaust, im probably about there or more by now. It sure does get up and go like it does. It was a rebuildt with a mild cam in it. Thats pretty much it. I think it was sold for about 1200. So just look around and get what you can.
You should be able to find a 350 easily....if you get one from a junk yard, take it to a shop and have it magnafluxed and hot tanked...it's worth it...no sense in building a motor with a cracked block. Also, buddy of mine works at an engine shop and they usually build race motors for sprint cars, drag cars and all the dirt track circle cars. He's got a couple of his own 4-bolt 350 blocks he's trying to get rid of since he built a 396 LT1. They were crack checked and hot tanked etc. I can see what he wants for them. But just like ebay, if you live far away, shipping will be expensive so it wouldn't be worth it. But just ask around....somebody's got one sitting around near you.
