Default Need some knowledge!

i bought an 87 camaro with a GM goodwrench 350 crate motor and its a 5 speed. i ran the vin number and it said it used to have the 305/ 5 speed. my questions are what tranny is it, is it a good one, and how much power can the tranny can handle. right now my motor is pretty much stock but has a edelbrock high rise intake and a rebuilt rodchester 4 barrel carb. i looked up the gm 350s and even the budget ones came with 290hp...i still need to look up the motor and see which one it is. so any information would be awesome! thanks alot! im lovin my 3rd gen!

Your fine. With the current intake system you've explained I wouldn't expect 250 out of it and in normal street scenarios you probobly aren't over 3K rpm anyway. Those transmissions are weak, but usually its from people thrashing them that has caused most of the problems.

I agree with the above Post about the HP and the T-5. But my opinion in your case is it might not last too long. However; you can prove me wrong.

The T5 is a weak tranny, but if you don't do any hard launches, or power shifts it should hold up OK. Start pumping a lot of HP or sidestepping the clutch doing burnouts, and kiss that T5 goodbye!
