Bay Shore.....ooooh....about 7 hours from me. 8*(

Is this an original tranny? My 82 has a NON overdrive Th350 in it....not original, not stock, not supposed to even fit with stock tail extension....gave me a huge run around for my first few weeks with the car assuming I had the original TH400.

Honestly, it sounds like you have the same combo I do...a tach thats a bit off and a transmission without overdrive.

Did you mean 700R4? T400 was from earlier days. But, the 700R4 wasn't an option in 82. The only automatic trans offered was the 200C 3 speed, not even a T350 could be had. Right, she doesn't have overdrive, that's been a given from the beginning.

Yeah, thats what I meant....but I was half in the bag last night and couldnt remember specifics....200C doesn't have overdrive? That explains the nasty 2.77 gears my car originally came with.....

i have the original window sticker. it says that the car came with either a 4 speed manual tranny or 3 speed automatic. dosnt say anything about overdrive. do you think the tranny could still be slipping or does it just need a 4 speed?

A 4 speed manual isn't an overdrive either. Both transmissions that were available with your car have a 1:1 final drive ratio. You need to hook up a known good tachometer to know for sure what your true engine rpm's are. Factory gauges can have a tendency of lying to you. And as I asked earlier, you also need to feel/listen to the trans as it's shifting. Are you definitely getting a 1-2-3 shift?

Any time. At least now you know what's what. Whether to try and replace/fix your original tach, or keep the aftermarket, is up to you. I don't trust the factory 3rd gen ones at all though.

I hope other 3rd gen owners pay attention

don't ever trust the stock tach as they are terrible

to the OP, glad to see you took the advice

It's good to know I swiped my tach from my dually before we sold it. but if I may ask for a favor. Could you by any chance take a picture of your starter solenoid with the wiring attached. i have the same car as you 82 pace car replica and I've dropped a 350 into it with the turbo 350. I never took the old engine out and didn't see what wire goes where and I can't get it turn over. I think a picture of yours would be more helpful then anything at the moment.
