first off i have an 85 z28 that i am doin a engine swap from the old 305 to a 383 stroker, i have the majority of the block built but am having problems with the valve covers, i am using the gm hot cam kit, which uses a 1.6 rocker instead of the common 1.5. this along with the vortec heads has become a problem due to the fact that the cheapest cover i have found has been around $100 a cover, which needless to say is outlandish, does anyone know of a cheaper place to get tall center bolt valve covers, or a way to extend the short valve covers to fit the 1.6 rockers? also i am trying to find out what would be the best oil pan for a high power application, i dont want the oil getting sloshed into the engine so i know i will need the seperator plate in the base, but i also dont want to pay too much money for it. any suggestions there? and lastly i am looking for a place to pick up a cheap bolt on 2 in cowl induction hood, seeing as the 383 won't fit under the standard hood. if you have any suggestions id appreciate it, and any ideas on how to pick up a little extra power on a limited budget would be outstanding. this is the last of my money from my deployment to iraq so im trying to make it last and enjoy it at the same time.

 

Are you using the aluminum rockers that go with the cam? You may want to take a look at stock LT4 valve covers.

 

yes i am using the rockers that came with the hot cam kit, they are 1.6 i apologize i failed to mention they needed to be center bolt valve covers because i am using vortec heads.
