Maybe you should make sure you have a posi and identify what type it is first.

a mini spool is not designed for street use (no spool is) because it locks the axles to gether solid. there is no difference between the wheel speeds in turns. parking lot manuvers become a nightmare , and your front tires wear REALLY quick. they also handle funny with a spool. may as well weld the side gears together get the same effect for free.

RPO G80, 10 bolt. ill check at napa on thursday to see if they have the rebuild. now how hard would it be to rebuild it? do i have to take out the axles and the ring gear, or can i do it all while its in there without having to shim and re-align it all?

yeah , just remember which shim goes on which side. pull the wheels , pull the drums , pull the diff. cover , remove the cinch bolt , slide the pin out , push the axles in slightly and remove the "c"clips, slide the axles out , remove the diff, caps and roll the diff. out . i've never rebuilt aLSD only replaced. but instalation is the exact opposite of removal.

Stay in school and learn something! My mom offered to pay for a college education but I wanted to work full time and learn my trade. Some times I wish I did it the other way.

i stopped at napa, about $700 for the kit to rebuild, but $350 for a whole new unit. im not that worried about it, as long as it still works like a posi off the line, im not concerned.

i swapped the tires again today, and noticed its back to acting properly. i put all my weight on the lug nuts to tighten them, and it stayed locked. maybe it did it before because it was cold?
