its pretty clean looking... its a v6.. a old friend had one.. has performance lowering suspension for it and a 383.. was going to buy it from him..the suspension is by some company with a h i think. cant think of it.. had trucks my whole life.. want something to go fast with now..he wants 800 for it.. motor runs poor.. any thoughts? anything i should look for? car ran when it was parked 4 years ago.. said it started with a jump about a year ago... thanks for the help
one more thing can you make these handle pretty good?

I'm confused. You say its a V6, but mentioned a 383 stroker....which is it? Plus you mentioned the motor runs poorly, so whats the plans? 3rd gens handle pretty well by default. Unless you are autocrossing it, with just new suspension components it will do very well on the street.
has a v6 now.. runs poor. friend has a 383 with 28k on it.. my plains are to have a fast fun car to drive.. i really like the look of this car.. so that why i was going for it.. how strong are the rear ends and tranny? its a auto... thanks
A V8 won't bolt up to your V6 trans. And a 383 will toast the trans and rearend....eventually. Of course, that depends on how hard you beat on it, but most of us don't put in stroker motors to baby the car to church once a week. If you have it, you're gonna "use" it.
No, the 4.3 V6 is a truck/van engine only, but has the same bellhousing flange as the V8. You would have the 2.8. Automatic trans would be the 700R4. If you're putting in a 383, both the trans and rearend is going to want to be beefed up to handle the torque.
I would agree that starting with a V8 car is way way easier. Just do yourself a favor and figure out what type of car you want to end up with, and start pricing things out. First of all, be certain this 383 is exactly what it is supposed to be. Look around on this forum and you will see countless stories of people who bought stroker motors only to find out they were 305's or something of the same ilk. Also putting in an old trans and rear end behind a decent motor will just make you buy what you should have done in the first place....start as fresh as you can! You will no doubt be at least 8K deep in buying the car buying the motor, trans, rear end, all the ancillary things such as belts, pully assemblies, fluids, hoses, ETC! Rear ends are not cheap either, expect around 2K for a properly built 10 bolt posi...even more if you go a 12 bolt or some other higher end unit. My point is price it out before you spend even one penny....oh and make you can do this swap if your are in an area that tests emissions you will need to get familiar with the laws.
