FYI you are only going to get opinions on this. I put several cranks and several short blocks under warranty in TPI 305 bone stock with low miles. I think I did one 350 in the same time frame but that short block was due to over heating.
Just my opinion
I would not go over 300 without some work to the bottom end. With a real good set of Main and rod bolts I might go 325.

another opinion lol, you can get lots of horse from a 305 depending on how much $ you put in, but if you have the $ to do so your better off investing in another block, 350ci are pretty easy to find and not that bad for price ranges if you look around.
what are you doing to the 305 that you need the advice for?

Why does everyone think turbos are cheap? The custom exhaust work alone would cost more the a decent 383 kit. Not to mention putting a turbo on a older motor without the right head gaskets and tuning will last only a short while. The average bolt on kit is what $3500? Then you still need to address the computer. So that is another 1000. You have upgrade the fuel system and the cooling system. I am sure I missed something.
You want to add cheap hp to your car get Nos. Sure you will most likely blow the motor but aleast then it only cost you 800-1000. With the right research and setup Nos can be mapped to be just like a turbo. All a turbo does is add air and that is all Nos does.
This concept that "Turbo are cheap addons to stock motor to get more power" does it come from the tuner world? Back when I was playing with motors it was pretty common knowledge you needed to drop the compression get more lift from the cam and go insane on the exhaust or the turbo was a waste. Most people would deck the block and the head and buy head gaskets designed for a turbo application.

Explaination above......Just dropping a turbo on a stock 305 is going to be catastrophic exercise in money and parts failure. By the time you get the turbo and all the other necessary mods, you could easily have made a nice 350.....And then you will blow up the engine. I just didnt want to be the one to chime in and say 'stupid idea, wont work and its way more expensive than you undertsand;.....I was trying to be nice and let someone else say it!
Freaky, ditch the turbo 305 idea. Sure it can be done for about 6 grand and its still not going to perform like a healthy 350....Save your money. 1000 bucks can find you a decent rebuilt 350 motor that will be close to what you want as far as power.

Opion again 305's dont like boost... they like mild compression and need major topend work unless u have a older 305 proly carbed with h.o's then u maybe able to push summ boost but 86 and up have swirl ports there garbage its like 1st design of vortex but major failure on the topend
i played around with mine for the last year cuz it was orginal motor with 50k on it didnt think it would hurt it much with topend work etc it ran a 14.5 =( but it was mean for a short time then lost a couple rods .....='(

i'm thinking about a turbo on low boost until i get a good engine . quick power just wonder how much the bottom can handle .
