ls2+6spd swap
my original plan was to put a down payment on the new camaro comin out, but i love my camaro so much, i decided that what if i could moreless take the new camaro and put it in my camaro? so i was thinkin, takin my 89 rs with 3.42 posi rear, flowmaster exhaust and some modifications to the engine, and swappin an ls2 in, and a 6 spd from probably a 98-02 camaro ss or z28, or even a firebird or vette. now to swap it over for the transmission i know i need the whole clutch assembly, the pedals longer driveshaft since manuals are smaller then automatics, the shifter. and for an ls2 swap seeing how mine is a 5.0 tbi, i'd have to get a whole new wiring harness and ECM because the ls2 has overhead cams, cam sensor, crank sensor, multiport ejection ect. also my 2 1/2 in exhaust wont cut it so id have to upgrade to 3" headerback exhaust with either no cats or high flow. id also like to upgrade the suspension to kyb adjustable gas shocks. id probably need a performance fuel pump, which i believe the fuel pump is in the fuel tank. so its definetly a project. my question is can i keep the same motor mounts? can i keep the stock cooling system? and is switching my 700r4 to a 6 spd any different then switching it to a 5 speed? and if there is anything then im missing in order to swap the 6 spd and ls2 in please lemme know. also any reccomendations for websites to get these parts cheap, or any performacne parts they put in their car and worked out well for them. i mean i realize im probably gonna be about 10 big ones into this car once im done. but the way i see it is, its cheaper then the new camaro so in a sense im saving money there and also im getting double the performance and getting better gas mileage! its a win win situation

RE: ls2+6spd swap
no. NO. and no. lol
the mounts are different in some way.. maybe farther back. im not sure. but they arent the same.
the cooling you MIGHT be able to get away with, but i would get a better radiator and set of dual fans
and the t-56 is very similar to the t-5. so no, no different other than the different clutches and so on and so fourth

RE: ls2+6spd swap
ok so the name of tranny in the 2000sh camaros is called te t56? and how much torque are those rated for? now i know the ls2 is the new favored motor. people are putting those in old school hot rods, so i dont think it would be too too hard to swap it over

RE: ls2+6spd swap
and the ls2 didnt come in any camaro or firebird... you'd have to find out of a 05-06 gto. And you MIGHT have ten grand in it... if you do everything yourself. The motor and trans pull out goes for around 6grand is what people are willing to pay for them. Sellers try to sell them at about 7-8... for engine and trans, and usually wiring harness and ecm. It's what im putting in my car, it's a great motor. It is a pushrod engine not an overhead cam engine.

RE: ls2+6spd swap
true, that would be a way to go if you have the money. Unless you have an attachment to the car. Then if you have the money and time, go for the swap. I think it would be cool

RE: ls2+6spd swap
well i realize it would be more work to swap it over into my 89 as opposed to a 2002 camaro, however nobody really has an ls2 motor in a third gen which is why i think it would be really cool. now other than the things i listed is there anythin else id have to replace? i wont have any issues taking my motor out i know that for a fact, however someone said before the motor mounts are different... how difficult would it be to replace? and is there any informational website or a guide i could get or something along those lines that will take me through step through in order to put an ls2 in my camaro? thanks

RE: ls2+6spd swap
um.. if you have the extra money. you can get a k-member with the LS series mounts on them from hawks. But i dont know the difference between a regular SBC and the LS block motor mounts.
