Default Little confused: Transmission

Can someone please check this out and explain things to me. To me it sounds like a Hybrid between a manual and an automatic. Almost like a CVT. I'm not sure if i'm taking it right or not.

Plain old automatic transmission with a modified valve body and internals. If selector is placed in first gear then transmission has to be shifted manually. Downshift to a lower gear is prevented if it will cause the engine to over rev, standard operation as in most newer auto transmissions. Internals are modified to stand up to more power.

Thx Pete,
So basically its like a normal automatic tranny but you can shift it though gears 1-5 manually? or just like 2,3 and then D? I'm Trying to picture things in my head, is it like the CVT Tranny in my Lancer now, where I can drive normally or shift though all gears, or is it like my old caddy where i could select 1,2 or drive? Sorry if i'm basically asking the same question.

it would be like the old trans in the caddy. its a regular automatic transmission, and has the same override features of a factory trans from the mid 80s and back. if you put into the position you want, it goes to that gear and holds it. if you put it in 2 or 3 from a start, it should start in those gears vs. starting in first and moving up to the selected gear.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I was under the wrong impression. I might as well go with a Manual Tanny. The only reason I was lookin at that was because i'm Rebuilding my 89 RS and it currently has a Auto tarnny. I'm going from a stock 2.8lV6 to a custom 350 pushing 410Hp. I was thinking about doing a Swap from Auto to Manual but was told it was alot of work. I though it functioned like the tranny in my 08 lancer, So it was a good alternaive. I guess i'll just have to find a wrecked doner car to steal some parts from.
