Default How much should head work cost?? $$!!

I went to the only speed shop in town today and asked them how much they wanted to just 'go over' my heads. (the used Vortecs) Explained that they only had 58k miles on em and I just want them cleaned, magnafluxed and squared up if need be.

They want 300 bucks to start. Does this sound normal or should I keep looking?

depends on what they are doing. ask them to be specific. if they are cleaning them in a hot tank, then anything that isnt iron either needs to be removed or replaced as the acid will eat it. if they are just cleaning them externally, squaring them, and magnafluxing, it shouldnt be more than $150. shop around and ask what they are performing

I dont want to get it done. Im sure the heads are crack free, the valve are fine and the surfaces are square. Im only doing it because I get all sorts of freaky paranoid about small problems and I just want a second eye on these things. The only thing I honestly want done is to have them cleaned up and have em squared. (if needed) BUT.....just in case there is a problem I wanna know.....
