How to make my v6 189 a bit faster.
Hello Camaro enthusiast! =D Well here's the thing I bought a v6 Camaro RS 3.1 and I'm at the point of fixing it up. But I want it to be a bit faster I don't want to do a engine swap yet I want just basics like intake headers full exhaust am I missing anything?:-)

microkid isn't being a wise guy
Firast, your car is aged so it's stock performance has degraded. By how much, who knows but 10% is a very conservative number. So let's baseline your car at about 125HP. Torque maybe 165 foot pounds and those are flywheel numbers.
So let's be liberal and allow you 15% gains doing bolt ons. That brings your HP to low 140's and torque to about 190 ft pounds.
How much $$ and effort would be involved? You also would barely feel it.
Here's a thought, change your spark plugs, cap and rotor, use premium fuel instead of the 87 and advance your timing 2-4 degrees. For about $2 per week (20 cents per gallon x 10 gallons) and you will have a little more performance by advancing the timing.
I'm going to try and jump into your head for a moment which is't hard to do because just read most v6 disciussions on any auto forum
You bought a car that looks like a high performanmce vehicle but bought the sixer and tried to convince yourself that you'd be OK (when you're older it's ok but as a kid you have testosterone). Or, the vehicle was given to you and that's why you have a sixer.
If you want the performance of the 8, don't spend money on bolt ons, don't ask about forced induction etc. Clean it up, fix the interior, and sell it.
Yes, there are perfomance sixers out there like Porsche, 350/370Z, new Camaro, new stangs etc but they are modern technology.

A K&N air filter, exhaust tip and crossfire sparkplugs will add at least 100 RWHP.

Sorry bub, you are SOL. Any kind of bolt on mod that you do is only going to yield a 2-5% gain, which I promise you wont even feel. If it makes you feel any better, that 3.1 is only marginally less powerful than a base 305 (V8).

Thanks everyone I think I might start of with headers. Then get a down pipe. Then maybe a k&N filter, but first a good tune up. And another question its got high mileage at 202xxxxxx what can I do to keep the engine running for a good while before I have the money to swap for a 350

i for once will agree with buffalo. but to add to it, the cost involved with swapping a v6 to v8 car might be as expensive as buying one that is already a v8 car. the transmission isnt interchangeable between the 6 and 8, as well as a few other componants that arent cheap either
