How can I tell what stall speed my converter is?
Im trying to find out why my 82 Z28 lacks power and cant spin its own tires. (Long story, but Ive done a full tune up and she's still way underpowered for a 305) Some have suggested that since my tranny was swapped to a th350, maybe the same person didnt install the correct converter. How do I know what stall speed converter I have, and if it is working correctly? Thanks.

RE: How can I tell what stall speed my converter is?
1) Start engine & get it fully warmed up
2) Step on the brakes as hard as you can to keep the rear wheels from turning.
3) Put tranny in drive
3) Floor the the accelerartor (no longer than 15 seconds to keep from cooking things)
4) Look at the tach & see how many RPM engine is turning (this is the stall speed for your engine & torque converter combination)
5) Release the accelerator pedal
Stall speed is a dynamic thing wihich changes with the power of the engine. This means that the same torque converter will have a higher stall speed with a more powerful engine.
