JR., The problem is excessive heat. Im running cheap headers and the car has always had heat issues. (Im not replacing the exhaust/headers unless I absolutely have too...) I had to go with a high torque starter because of heat draw....then I needed a 1/2" phenolic spacer under the carb because if the car got turned off hot, it would boil off the fuel in the bowl in 5 minutes. Then I addressed some of the vapor lock issues with a smaller fuel filter (i was running a big see thru plastic one.....to big and too much cavitation) so I guess she has always run a bit on the hot side. Not dangerous, just hot. Like I said, she looses a bit of power after she warms up. (not a mixture issue, I actually leaned her back last week and she starts easier now....) I honestly think my engine compartment is one big heat sink and cooking things off. If I could lower the operating temp by 25* I think it would make a huge difference. You think Im way off on this one?

Hey 350rs....suck my left tailpipe! You know u missed me!
What kind of fan are you running? You and I are basically running the same setup. I only had heat issues ONCE. That was with the stock clutch fan. First few days I had the engine in, the temps would be manageable but then spike upwards of 220 at idle, and made everything else run like crap.

Swapped it out for a flex fan and my aftermarket gauge rarely sees anything above 190 degrees. Only time I see the occasional 200 degrees is sitting in the South Florida traffic for an extended period of time. This is with a 180 degree thermostat.

Header wrap isn't a bad idea. I actually need to do it myself. If I were you I would start with the cooling fan and wrapping your headers, that should knock down your under hood temperatures dramatically.

Already running a flex fan. Ive considered header wrap before but was told it just holds the heat inside the header and cooks its from the inside out. Very damaging to the header? If wrap will solve (or improve the issue) with no damage to the headers, Im all for it......

Saint Ali............I hail from about 2007. Was a regular poster until 350RS picked on me too much and I went postal. JK. My account had a bug or something and I couldnt log on forever. I usually come here for diagnostics or to help other, newer members with problems Ive seen before....

Thanks for the butt rub but that still doesnt answer if header wrap actually hurts the headers.....

Ive been told that the header wrap holds the heat in the pipes so well that it actually cooks it from the inside out. The metal gets hotter than it was even intended and fatigues earlier. Ive heard more than a few guys say this. Do a quick web search on 'problems with header wraps' and you will find more. Then again, I hear a lot of shiznizzle on websites.....Im going online tonight to Summit and order some wrap. Advance Auto wanted 32 bucks PER roll, Ill be needing 2......and the clamps (an extra 20 bucks....)

Either way, I need to find a way to reduce under hood temps......

So I went to the above site. It took me a few items to catch on, but really 350rs, maybe thats why your car never runs.

OK, focus......cooler engine compartment temps.......think man, think......

Honestly Scott I still say you have a problem elsewhere. Like I said I have the same setup as you and I never have a problem with under hood temps, and this is in South Florida.
