Default Hatch Back Latch

Ok I cant seem to get my hatch to lock down so I desided to take a look at the latch. After I tore the pannel off to look at the latch I notice some shotty welds on it. So I do some studying and come to find out that there used to be an electric pull down system which has been removed and welded into place. So thanks to that being gone the latch wont go evenly into place[:@] So I'm not sure what to do to fix it and I'm asking you guys as im lost. Just replace the entire thing? Remake a new mount for the latch? Any ideas anyone?

My dad's 83 did not have the power pull down. It was a ***** to close the hatch! Check ****-e-bay or the wrecking yard and find a pull down latch.

Trying to repair a Hatch pull down system that has been removed is going to be expensive. Try this web site and download there repair instructions to give you a idea what is missing. www.Top-DownSolutions.com
They also have a complete line of repair parts including a complete pull-down assembly.
Good luck

my pull down stopped working recently and the dealer said it would be be around 180 to buy a new one. So if you have the cash I would go that route. If not it may not ever seat properly and you will have exhaust seeping in the back hatch.

umm... When it rains it pours, **** rolls downhill, crap piles up....The cars are getting older now.
I got one of those latches at the local pick and pull for five bux! It really tore the cashier apart when she saw it had electric motor and all they had in the computer for it was "latch $5".
