RPO G80 was a extra cost option and your car may have it or not. Pull the cover and check if it has a limited slip rear only way to tell.

Slip a jack under the rear diff, lift, and hand spin the wheels. If they both spin, you gots posi. I know its more than you wanted to do, but its the only way to be sure.

If they both spin the same way, it's a posi, if one spins opposite the other, it's LS. The spider gears in the carrier of a limited slip will invert the motion of the left tire when there's no resistance on the right side. I've heard that the spiders can be welded in place, but I've never done it, so I won't go off endorsing it, but if you can find someone who has, and can back up the results, and you don't want to spin your right wheel forever, it might be something to consider.

Dont weld the spiders. That is what drag racers do and they only drive in a staight line.

One more thing. Positraction and limited slip are the same thing. I think posi is a brand name like coke and pepsi are to colas. If one wheel spins one direction and the other in the opposite it is just an open or standard rear end.

Your info is a little incorrect. For one a Posi (aka positraction a chevolet trade name from the 60's) and a Limited Slip are ONE and the SAME THING.
What you ment its a Open rear.[sm=chairshot.gif]

Gotcha. Blame it on redneck mechanics in Maryland. I grew up with limited slip, posi, or locked gears, and they were all different according to most of the people around here. I never questioned it, since the guy I learned it from had a 7 second methanol powered Nova. In any case, the better rear will spin both wheels in the same direction, no matter what you wanna call it.
