dont forget to remove the metering valve and replace the proportioning valve under the master cylinder. if you dont, your rear brakes will lock up much sooner than the front, and will cause the car to handle bad under light braking while cornering.

4th gen rears are a direct swap, however the rear axle housing is 4" longer overall. You will also to replace the Proportioning valve and make sure to get the parking brake cables for the 4th gen rear (present ones will not work). Your 3rd gen wheels may also be a problem, but some people say they are not (wheel back spacing is different between the two).

I thought about a 4th gen rear, but instead went with a 1989 BW 9-bolt with the pbr rear discs. Worked out better in my case.

thanks for the info
the reason for looking at the gen 4 rear is to open my options because around where i live gen 3 parts are getting hard to find expecially the disc brake posi rears

btw; would i need the gen3 or the gen 4 proportioning valve

you would probably be better off with the 3rd gen proportioning valve, but i dont know if there is a difference. you could also just get an adjustable proportioning valve. that way you could change the braking balance to your liking, and if you go to the drag strip, you could turn down the rear brakes to allow for an easier burnout

and theres always line lock. If i get into it enough i will install one of those on mine, seems like a pretty straight forward install.
