Default Which F-body do i want?

Hey, whats up guys? I have been looking at getting my first F-body, simply because I love them (and women love them to, but thats beside the point).

Any way, I only been driving about 4 months in a tiny underpowered truck. My parents bought it for me cheap, and now I found some people willing to give me $2400 for it. The thing is, they need it soon, and I need something to drive around every day to get to and from school and work. I currently am only making enough to pay for gas and repairs, so Im going to have basicly $2400 to spend on this car.

My biggest concern is that I dont want to be going into the hole broek cuzz my car cant seem to stay running for more than a week. I know cars need parts every once in a while, but i have heard horror stories about 80's era V6s going through injectors constantly. I need fuel economy, and some duribility. As long as its an F-body, everything else is secondary. I know it will have more power than my truck, and I know it will run circles around my truck. Anything is a step up.

Whats a good year to get? Should I go with throtle body ingection, carborated, what? It would be nice if it had some upgradability as well, but what the hay, this is me getting started.

If you wand more Power, look for a 350 TPI or a 305 TPI with a 5sp. Stay away from any 305 TBI engines. My opinion

ok first of all are you going to work on the car your self or take it some where to get fixed??? thats important, carbs and tbi are way easyer to work the then tpi. there is a big war in this web site about TBI vs. TPI and everyone vs. carb. if you are looking for ecom. i say look for a 90' or newer. right around 88 89 they started to get there power and ecom back. "thats how i feel..." since this is your first f-body i think you should read as much as you can before you buy one. tell you what i love my f-body but she still has problems... and sometimes there hard to fix... cuz im going to school and working. "i think"....... dont buy anything older then a third gen camaro unless you find one in good shape cuz you want have the money to keep it on the road "trust me" so third gen or newer.... hehehe look for an 89-92 iroc or z28 5 speed t tops and you want have any more qus hehehe just a smile good luck....

I can do most of the work myself, and since Im still a new(ish) driver, I think a V8 might get me into some trouble. ANYthing is going to have alot more power than my little datsun. Are there any peticular years to steer clear from in the way of V6s?

Where have you seen a Z with t-tops AND a T-5? Far as I can remember, they never came in the same car off the factory floor....

Not to mention that if you get an L03 (305 Throttle Body Injected) they only made about 170 whp stock, and regardless of what anyone says, it IS a good motor, it's got lots of potential, locked up in a little emphesimic box.

It's a matter of personal choice and what You like and what You want to do with the car. Get a v8 car simply for the easy mods You could do later on.

if u get a 305 with a 5spd, u better not have any plans of doin an engine swap. the reason they didnt make 5spd 350s was cuz the tranny couldnt handle the power. id go for a 350 tpi 3rd gen. in my opinion, they look better than the 4th gens, they have decent handling, and great fuel economy for a v8. my 305 tbi gets around 25-27 highway and about 15 or 16 city, but i have a heavy foot.
