Engine Won't Idle

Engine Won't Idle
Yet another problem has revealed itself:
Today I took a little trip to Auto Zone to test for the check engine light code I mentioned earlier. The woman took what appeared to be an unbent paper clip, pushed it into the terminal, turned the key to ON, and looked for a code. She told me code 32 appeared, and that if I wanted to test for codes myself I only needed to connect the top two terminals. Seems things ended well..
I proceeded into the store where the employee produced a printout of my check engine code problem and solution. I then purchased a blacklight, to accent my interior, thanked the female, and left the store.
So far so good, right?
I opened my door, placed my key in the ignition, placed the transmission in neutral (its a 5 speed) and started the car. The engine reved, like normal, and then died! I tried it again, this time with the clutch depressed, and found the same result. In the end, I was forced to drive home with the gas depressed the entire way; otherwise, the engine would die.
Is it possible that the Auto Zone employee could have shorted something, and what can I do to fix this problem?! Nothing like this has ever happened before...

RE: Engine Won't Idle
Thanks but
I just went out and started it again (after a quick visual inspection of the wires) and the car worked fine. I'll take it for a test drive in a little bit.
Our resident mechanic (my father) says the engine may have overheated earlier, but is not sure of the problem. Anyone else have any ideas?
