Default engine swap???

My 86' Camaro currently has a stock 305 tpi engine. I already have a 350 carb'd engine. Would all the work of losing the tpi for the carb'd 350 even be worth it in the long run and if it is how much of a pain in the *** would that be? please help me with what ever knowledge you have about the comparison. Also i have the factory 700r4 but on the back of the 350 i have i have a 400 turbo. Would doing a motor/tranny swap be worth all the ****? i was also wondering can you put non305 small block heads on the enigne and the tpi still bolt up? Any information about tpi engine build up that wontsucker punch the pocket book(if they excist) will greatly be appreciated.

It depends, a carb is great for going in a straight line but sucks for reactive handling. I would stick with the 700R4. Any small block chevy heads will bolt on any small block chevy block, this is why they are so famous, you can do so much with them. But you have to look at the performance factor and what you are looking for. Why do you want to swap heads anyway, stock is good so you know what you got and then work from there. Best of luck!!!

I was wondering what some of the cheaper motor mods i could do because anyone that has ever looked at the aftermarket parts for a tpi such as chips or intakes know that they are pretty expensive. i was also wanting to know what the performance comparison of a stock 350 with a 650 holley carb and a stock 305 with the tuned port injection.

Your intake may not bolt to any head. Look at the center bolts on the intake. Do they go in at the same angle as the rest? I am not 100% but I think when they went to center bolt valve covers that is when the bolts in the manifold are different.

As far as bolt-on mods go, the possiblities are endless, both ways. You can tweek carbs all you want but only get out what your intake and heads will give you (again, both ways). You can always get a better throttle body and injectors, but again, what do want to do with the car? Street/strip or overall handling. A carb won't give the outstanding performance and reaction that fuel injection can, but they are great to dump alot of gas in a 1/4 mile. Figure out what you want to do and visit websites like thunderracing.com and summitracing.com. They have some of the best f-body tunes you can find.
