Default Electrical Problem..?

Today when I was driving my 87 camaro 305 carb the choke light came on and the tachometer started acting whack. When I would put on the parking break the tachometer would jump up. It was constantly sitting at 4500 even though the cars was running fine. So i thought it was just an electical problem. Well I am getting close to home when my car started to upshift and downshift then it stalled. After that I could not get it to start. So I had to get a push home.

So I am wondering what could be the problem here? Electical? Choke? Transmission? I have no idea where to start. Any advice would be great.

dont take this advice to the grave but i would start witha ground.....sounds like a bad ground. With all that crazy stuff going on that what i would look for. There are a few ground straps on the back of the engine. As far as the tach make sure it plugged in tight at the distrubutor. Hope this helps

thanks for the help. started looking for frayed wires and such and found one with the inside showing so wrapped it up with electical tape. then my friend and i decided to check the fuses and found a blown one in the gauges slot replaced it and it cranked right up without the choke light on and the tach working right.
