Door Handles
I just welded in an 8-point rollcage into my 91Z. I'm planning on it being a street/strip/take to shows (not to really compete) car. My problem is the door handles inside hit the crossbar (bar that goes from your shoulders down to the firewall) when I try to shut the door. I need something there so I can pull the door shut from the inside. The bar crosses right in the middle of the arm rest. I was wondering if I could cut them in half and have them recovered but I'm not sure if that would work too well. I want it to look nice but I can't think of any smooth slick ways to put a handle there. Has anybody seen this done or have any ideas on how to do it? Thanks for your help!
Would you be able to redirect the roll cage so it goes straight down, turns 90 degrees, and runs right under the door handle, then angles down again? It would take some welding, but if you already did the cage, that shouldn't be a problem.
Take the doors off and just use nets like jeepers do.
Do a custom job. Pull the covering off and use the plastic reinforcment for the shape. Fiberglass it to a panel, make it shorter! It will keep the original shape and be diferent in the same time. Paint the panels or cover them with a material.
Or if its the long part that goes up near the handle maybe you can take the one bolt out, shorten the spacer and use a shorter bolt to get it closer to the door.
