Default Does anyone know....

what temperature my fan should kick in, in my 91 Rs? I've replaced the thermostat and have been letting it run and it gets up to 170-180 and fan is still not running.... Google said 230... but that seems TOO high.

I agree, 230* is too high. Summit racing, Hawk's Third gen, and maybe your local auto parts store will have aftermarket fan switches that turn the radiator fan on at lower temps. I'm not sure of the temp, but they are available. I have a toggle switch under my left leg so I can turn on my fan at will, so I didn't bother with the block switch.

factory set is 230. yes, its high, but it reduces emissions. you can put in an adjustable fan controller and set it for what ever temp you would like

Where does the adjustable fan controller connect, and where can they be purchased?

hayden produces them and they can be bought at any hot rod shop. There are a few types. The adjustable one contains a rheostat control box that can be mounted somewhere (mine is by the battery) then there is either a probe that is placed between radiator fins, or a probe can be threaded into the head. I chose to thread it into the head, but be carefull how it is wired that close to the exhaust. Then there are leads to the battery, ignition, and a/c. Just follow directions, and you will have what you need. I did this only because I live in Arizona and I have a higher HP motor with aluminum heads. On a stock car, this may not be needed.

Sorry EreBus, don't mean to hijack the thread. This info I believe could benefit us both. I like the "between the fins" the best. What about the block switch? Could the probe be put in place of it? Does the green/white stripe wire go to the probe instead of the factory switch??

According to that, you have absolutely no overheating problems.

I thought he meant his fan didn't kick on at 170-180. I assumed the engine will reach 230* before the fans kick in.

Well no it wouldn't kick on that low. But he said his engine gets up to 170-180. I'd say he's one of the lucky ones if that's as hot as it gets.

170-180 w/no fan is very lucky in a world like this.
