Default a dilemma

hey guys, ok i have a slight issue on my hands and am looking for some input. i'm building a carb'd 350 to put in my 86 camaro, and my problem is whether i should use the stock crank and rods and go with flat top pistons, or eagle makes a rotating assembly for a 355 which has the crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings. the cost of the balanced assembly over the pistons is about 300-400 bucks, plus i'll have to get my block bored and rehoned, what do you guys think? ps, budget is not really an issue as the car isnt goin anywhere for a while

Ithink it just depends on what ever "floats your boat". A balanced kit is nice. You should also be able to get them for a 350. Did you check your bores to start with?

my bores are 4" even. and the balanced kits for the stock bore is the same price, so its kind of a toss up, and extra 5 cubes would be nice, especially since my friend has a 5.0 rustang......lol

depends on how much power you are looking for....jegs has a motor form bluebprint engines ....its a 383 stroker(which are awesome) making 405 hp for only3000.00 inlcudew heads and intake manifold you can also get that same engine in a turn key with everything included, waterpump fuel pump ditrubutor carb, etc. for 4500.00 thats the way id go and youll have enough power to smoke an M3 or porsche.

whats the block out of, (whats it built for, torque, high end, what) and what are you looking for out of it. When i starting building mine, i knew i just wanted something with a good deal of torque, didnt care all that much about top end i wanted bottom end. so i went out and got a stock engine out of a 3500 series truck so i knew it would be plenty torquey, this engine came from factory built to move a 8000lb utility truck, and i was slapping it behind my 2500lb camaro with 3:43 gearing, so i didnt do a whole lot to the bottom end other than just replacing some wearable parts. this is that stage where u need to realy think about what you want out of that engine before you buy anything. u gotta relize with a 350 theres alot out there that will be able to whoop your butt unless u realy go into depths with this thing. if your looking for a strip queen, i would go with a 383 kit, u can build them for a pretty decent price. if you just looking for something to play with 355 would be the way i would go, or if u want a burn out queen, i would probably start looking into the truck kits they make for high torque.

my only concern is if i go with a 383, that would kill my top end no? i'm looking for soemthing that i can drive on the street, burn outs when i want, but doenst competley bog out at the top of fourth into fifth. i figured a 350, bored 0.030" over, flat top pistons, a comp cam with just shy of 0.500" lift, edelbrock aluminum heads (2.02" 1.60" 64cc), a good intake manifold and a 650-750 carb would be a damn good setup
