Differential problem 1982 Camaro
Hi!
I have just bought a 1982 Camaro Z28, the car is in very good condition but I have some problems with the differential.
The previous owner got the differential/rear axle from another camaro that was crashed. The differential/rear axle is a 10 bolt LSD/locked
diff with vented disc brakes.
When I drive the car normally the diff seems like it is locked, the front wheels are slipping if I do a sharp turn, both in reverse and forward and it is difficult to make small turns with the car.
I didn't bother at first because at least I have alot of traction when I need it (I tought) but the problem is when I accelerate in a straight line the right wheel spins. If I touch the brake to attempt a burnout the right wheel is spinning an the left is not.
So I have all the disadvantages of a locked diff when I don't need it and I don't have the advantages when I need it! [&o]
Please help!
Any suggestions are welcome!
Sincerely
Ole Martin Thu

RE: Differential problem 1982 Camaro
Whatever you have is working the opposite of the way it is supposed to work. you need to take off your rear end cover and see what is going on in there, but I suspect the limited slip unit needs an overhaul.

It dose sound like something is definately smoked. If you find any pieces/parts in the housing after you pull the cover, take it to a drivline shop and get it rebuilt. I'll bet the clutch pack retainers are broke and laying in the housing, if they are, the clutches start grinding into the carrier destroying it. Limited slips don't like burn outs so much.
