Default cutting coils

Hey everybody,Ive got a 92 RS and was wondering what u guys think of cutting 1/2 coil out of the springs will do ,if anything.Im getting ready to replace the shocks and struts and was thinking since im in there cutting 1/2 coil out.Dont want to spend the 300 bucks or so on lowering springs if cutting will do same thing as long as it wont damage the springs like heating them does.

You really want to know what we think? Its a BAD idea. The Camaro is low enough, if you cut a coil you will effect the handling. Lemme know how it feels when you bottom the entire suspension out and tear up your oil pan, transmission pan and overstress all your steering components. If you INSIST on lowering the car, do it right.

^+1. Cutting coils doesn't do the same thing as lowering springs. The spring rate must change with the spring height. Changing one negatively affects handling.

You can get Eibach lowering springs for about $200 if you really want to lower it.

wicked problem bro!... personally i think cutting springs is a bad idea. stock springs give the car a certain handling caracteristic that will be destroyed once you cut them. aftermarket lowering springs help maintain the same affect and handling while at the same time letting you acheive the ride height you want. handling stiffness also improves with aftermarket springs. in the long run coughing up the money for those spring is well worth the purchase. ;-)

the ride will be horrible also when you cut them.i remember doing it when i was younger to take the wheel well gap out of my ss s-10 i had and it rode so bad i ended up just buying lowering coils and spindles to get it to ride ok again.needless to say having to tear it apart twice to try to cut corners and save a buck.
