Default Convertible Iroc

Been giving it some serious thought of maybe finding a low mileage, all original, extremely well cared for convertible Iroc. As once a original owner of a 1990RS for 20 years I remember the severe paint adhesion issues of the 1990 model year. Does anyone know if this was a problem for the 88-89 model years as well?

I had a 91 with the same flaky paint problem. The Norwood Ohio plant closed in late 1987. At that point, all the Camaros were built in the Van Nuys CA plant, using water based paint following Californi's tight paint restrictions. So the answer is yes, 88-89 model years as well.

So it would be safe to assume any 89-90 Iroc will most certainly have a repaint? I know my 90RS had one under warranty(didn't last 2 years and you could strip the car with a credit card).

I'll bet ALL convertables were repainted anyways after ASC did the conversion.
My 92 RS seems to be holding out but it still has some small chips. Not bad for original paint. My 05 truck had big patches coming off but got warranty to fix earlier this year.
I have a convert that I am trying to put together to sell,it is definetly a project car though for whoever buys it

If it looks perfect, could be. Mine had three popped areas on the back hatch, and one on each side of the roof behind the t-tops. I repainted those areas only, as the rest of the car was rust free and near perfect. This was less than three years ago, so the original paint on it lasted pretty well. A lot also depends on how much time the car spent outside. If it spent a lot of time in the garage, it could still have the original paint in tact. And usually it's the horizontal surfaces that will flake off, not the door or fender sides, etc.

my car has some issues with the clear coat comming off, and a few spots were repainted but have the same problem. i did however work with a woman who owns a 92 rs, garage kept, under 15k miles, and the paint looks brand new
