Default Chevrolet crappy paint ?

In the third generation, did chervrolet have problems with their paint? I have heard this alot. Because of some of the spots on my car that are fading off.... It appears as if it is down to no paint at all. Perhaps bare metal ? These spots are above the rear view mirror of the car ( on the exterior of course ) and on the side railing of the window between the windsheild and the driver-side window. As well as the trunk hatch... close to the spoiler. I will try to get some pics and upload them. But as I said, I was told during these years that chevrolet was having problems with their paint being cheap. I try to keep it clean as possible and wax it when it needs it. So no more of these spots will appear. Because it just makes the car look plain crappy.

Thanks!

The Van Nuys plant was know for bad paint jobs due the type of paint used to meet plantpollution standards. Nothing you can do about it now.

In the 80s' and 90's all the manufactures had thier problems with paint. You could watch it blow off in sheets on ford trucks. Early years they were using water borne enamals. Then came the start of lower VOC urethanes which were not all that great to begin with. All you can do to fix it is repaint it. If you do the bad sections now other sections are sure to follow.

Yeah, all car manufacturers in the eighties had that problem. My 86 was painted at the plant in ohio, which had superior paint mixtures than the California plant, and the paint has faded off in the same spots that you mentioned. It is not nearly as bad as some other models, though. I had a friend who tried to do the Dukes of Hazzard slide across the hood of his dad's 80 something chrysler and ended up with the back of his shirt being completly red!

Thar plant in was the Norwood assembly plant and had the best paint shop. My 87 IROC-Z was assemblied there and I had no problems with my paint after 20yrs.
