Alright, now that we're on the same page... You take a paper clip, un-bend it, and use it to jump terminals on the diagnostic port. This puts the ECM in diagnostic mode and flashes the check engine light in sequences to tell you what codes are present. I'm not sure which terminals as I've never done it on a third gen before (no computer in mine, LOL), but someone will chime in.

Nothing wrong with havin a computer. Depending on your setup you can even use it to tweak things easily.

Granted, this is dependent on sensors working correctly, but people who are quick to remove the computers and fuel injection are usually just people too scared to learn electronics and technology.

Not that I didn't mind my carb'd setup on my z28, but I definitely love my TPI setup. :P

im not afraid of computers and technology there just not fo me im a 17 year old kid who has no income i cant afford to build computerized car and the article says with the car not running my engine light only comes on when i stay at the same speed for too long and when i turn the carr off the engine light goes off

 

That doesn't matter. Your computer should have some stored error codes since your engine light has been going on. Jumping the prongs with the paperclip will flash your check engine light a certain number of times depending on the code. Read the instructions link I posted. You will first get a series of one-two flashes (normal no ignition signal code since engine is off). Then count the number of flashes that follow the 12 code.
