In case you want to make a list....
In a lot of states it's illegal to run without a front license plate where required.
It's also illegal to speed, blow through a red light, blow a stop sign, have a cracked/impaired windshield, have too loud of an exhaust, weave in and out of traffic...
Who here hasn't broken the law yet?......Anybody?

Livin' in the DC area, bashgod could end up getting tarred and feathered then run out of town on a rail if caught....
I used to live in Fredericksburg, the smog laws differ by county in VA. They were moving towards a sniffer check on all vehicles before I left. I know at the time in Spotsylvania where I lived it changed to a visual inspection for presence of components if your vehicle was over 25 years old.
The best way to find out is to call a local vehicle inspection provider and ask for the inspection criteria for your year and and vehicle type. They'll give you a totally accurate answer.
There is one semi legal way to pull all your emissions equipment in VA, if you register your vehicle as an "antique" and get an antique vehicle plate, you are exempt from inspection. the down side of the Antique vehicle registration is that you are only supposed to operate the vehicle on public roadways to transport it to shows.
Of course, they have know way of knowing when and where car shows are....
I personally plan to keep my emissions equipment on and go the high flow Cat route, just so I don't have to worry every time I go through inspection.
