Carbon Fiber hood

RE: Carbon Fiber hood
I agree that it does not make much sense. Consider this: the original hood on my '98 Camaro weighed 52 lbs (we weighed it when it came off) with brackets, etc. A $940, lightweight ram air hood with light-weight brackets we put on its its place weighed 14 (with the airbox), for a savings of 38 lbs. A carbon fiber hood would weight, what? 7 lbs, so I'd save a further 7 lbs for how much more would it cost, another $1000 or more. There are other things to spend that money on.
And carbon fiber is ugly unless filled and painted, which costs $$$. I am certain that the clear-coated look of "naked carbon fiber" is going to become very dated, very soon, becoming the "butcher block formica" of auto finishes --- obsolete and so not-cool anymore.
