stick with the q jet...look online on ways to trick out a q-jet . they can really suprise a lot of people. i had one on my crate engine and nobody could believe i had that carb on there. they can flow up to 800 cfms. you have to make an adjustment ot the back butterflies as they dont open all they way from the factory. also jet the primaries. leave the secondaries alone, maybe just change out the metering rods or sometime the hanger that holds the metering rods can be changed out. i think third gen.org has a page of mods for the q-jet but google it. Oh and you will get way better gas mileage with the q-jet when your foot isnt burried to the floor.
My advise is to either stick with the Qjet and rebuild it or get a Holley. I am a big advocate against Edelbrocks. They're manufactured by Weber USA who's been making crap for years. For your application, I would get a Holley Street Avenger 670 and be done with it.
