Default Is this Camaro Worth it?

A few weeks ago I was at my dads during the weekend, and we were talkng about what we wanted to do to our 86 Z-28 camaro project when I said lets go look at this 88 camaro for sale and see what parts are good on it. As I was giving him directions to the car, on the last turn he missed the left and straight up the gravel road. I said, " Dad , you missed the turn , the car is this way" ( pointing behind us). My dad said " No we didnt, its right here."

We stumbled upon what i think is an 85 Iroc-Z28 camaro that had grass about 6 inches high around it. i know its an iroc but not certain of the year. it has the old 85 mph speedo like the82 and 83's have.We took note of it and left. I made it an objective to go back to the house and talk to the owner about i t. 2 days later I made it back to the womens house and asked her about the car. she said it would take about 2000.00 to get it off her hands. now my question to you camaro experts ( guys and gals) is it worth it.... heres the descrpition

1985 Iroc-Z camaro
35,000 original miles on 5.0 litre 305 ( 4 speed automatic)
interior is about 98 percent perfect ( just needs sweeped out, and goo gone to take tape residue off dash)
the body of the is perfect when it comes to dents, paint wise the it needs a paint job as some parts faded
Rims arent pitted, just needs polished
Under body is in almost 100 percent condition ( other than some rust on the exhaust pipes)
The owner also said that the 305 is Knocking really bad so it will either need rods or a new short block motor and fuel pump.

Do you guys think it's worth it ?? around where i live money talks , when i get my tax check im gonna offer the woman 1500 cash for it..

i also got One more question for ya.
youve probably heard this a billion times but, we all know that the 305 is a weak motor, can i grab a 350 and tear it down to where i can put what i need to off the 305 on to the 350 and still keep the original wiring or will i need a new wiring harness all together, or would it be better in the long run to keep it original.

35000miles and its knocking? that sounds strange, but if u want to swap the motor its no big deal. i would say its worth it since its in nice shape

Gotta be more like 135,000. maybe not. Most people when they get 35,000 miles are a car it is in time to be still under warrenty. But if it loks as good as you say it does then I would go for it cause a motor in it is cake work. The wireing and all should swap right over.

2 grand for a car overgrown with grass and a knocking motor?God only knows what has crawled up inside that thing and chewed away at its wires as it has sat. There is NO WAY that engine has 35K on it.

Rims need polishing? If they are aluminium, that clearcote is gonna take HOURS of polishing, probably sandblasting to clean up. Been there, done that, major pain in the ***.

Needs a paint job?

Offer her 800 bucks, and not a dollar more. That motor is whooped, god knows whats happened to it while it has sat! ( What does the last inspection sticker/registration show when it was last active??)

I know you are dying for a good deal, but PASS on this one. Trust me, I am the KING of bad purchases, and even I wouldnt buy this one! This has headache written all over it.

Just my .02

Good luck.

Sorry dude.. I would have to second the passing.. I got mine for 800 with a good condition body, good condition interior, and no knocks in the engine... I would say that if you can lowball her, depending on how low shell go, go for it, but 2000 even 1500 is still a little pricey.. And above all, CHECK IT OUT GOOD! Make sure you know exactly what youre buying.. Good luck.

Did you actually listen to it run? That's got to be one of the most important things you could possibly do when buying a car. She's obviously full of it if she wants $2000 for it, and I'm thinking that if the odometer says 35k, it's becausethose odometers only had 6 digits. Lying *** people like that are the whole reason we switched to 7 digit odometers.
