Default Cam question

I have the undesirable LO3. I've heard of people putting an LT1 cam in these motors. Would that be a direct swap without more modification?

there all sbc so i would think that it would fit. not real sure though. the changes in 92 were dramatic. i know u can get pretty much any cam cut to your specs so one way or another u could have a lt cam.

I've also heard you can do that with the "new" LT1 cam. But, does the LT1 cam have a distributor drive gear in back? It drives the distributor off the front of the cam.
BTW, I assume you're referring to the 1992-up LT1, and not the early 1970's LT-1?

The LT1 cam has the same drive gear in the back of the cam as all other small block cams. In the LT1 it only connects to the oil pump via a drop in pump drive gear. However, a small block distributor can be driven in its place.

^ What he said about what he said!
Now that you mention the cam/oil pump gear, I do remember seeing an article once on modifying an LT1 intake manifold for installing a drop-in type distributor.
