black filter valve looking thing?
were puttin everything back in the car when we come across this black valve looking thing. An when i blow threw it.. it seem sorta like a one way valve with a hint of gas.... im not to sure but i think it go's in between the brake booster an the line to the throtle body.. please help.
I believe that would be your vacuum retainer valve and filter. It's so you have brake assist when there's no vacuum from the engine (I.E: When you're not idiling, and when the motor is off.) It's not important if you don't like stopping the car without standing on the brakes....
A good rule of thumb when working on a car that You're unfamiliar with is to take some photos of the area being worked on for reference so You can put it back together properly..................just a comment
ok heres a pic of what im talking about.... i've look at all the pic in the haynes manual and it looks like it go's in between the brake boster an some sort of fuel line of the throtle body.... when i blow in it you can tell it's some sort of one way valve with a hint of gas in it...
The elbow that goes into the booster is a one way valve so you do not loose vacumm. As for where it hooks to a TPI I can not say off hand but it does need to go to the intake for engine vacuum.
It's got to be a vacuum reserve valve, and there would never be intentional introduction of fuel into the vacuum booster, since petroleum contamination can destroy your brake system (not the booster, itself, but any of the hydraulic parts.) Basically, if the booster doesn't have vacuum, the brakes are as good as not having it, so the booster is built large enough to hold enough vacuum for 3 to 4 applies with no external vacuum, hence a one way valve to maintain the needed vac. The valve probably goes right in the booster in a grommet on the left side near the top.
k well i really need to know where it go's..... im tring to start my car right now but it doesnt sound healthy when it turns over i don't know if it has to do with that fikter thing
You had a TBI, right? The carb looking one. Check under the air cleaner in the front of the throttle body, if that's the case. I can't remember for sure, as I haven't worked on the vac lines on mine in years....
