Default Battery always drawing current

A friend of mine is in the middle of replacing the ignition switch in a 1984 Iroc Z. After putting in the new switch, the battery is now always drawing current, with or without the key...As soon as you hook up the battery...all idiot lights come on and stay on...Any help?

The smart alec answer is something is messed up.... Seriously, it seems like something in the "on" circuit is now wired hot. It appears you can't turn the circuit to the "off" position. Without seeing what was done, that's the best I can offer.

Sounds to me like it is either a defective switch or the rod from the key that pushes the switch is not sitting it its seat.

I agree with gorn it sounds like there may be an internal short in the switch.
