Default backspacing

what would be the back spacing for rims on my 1984 z28. It has rear drum brakes. Or could you tell me how to do it myself? It has 15 inch stock rims on it right now.

The newer 3rd gen 16" wheels have about 5.5" b.s. Not so sure about your 15's though.
Remove a wheel, set it face down on the ground, put a straight edge across the outer edge of the wheel (not the raised lip but the flat area, and it needs to fit between the bulge of the tire), and measure up from the wheel hub mounting surface to the bottom of the straight edge.

lmao not many people do stuff off of backspacing anymore alot of stuff is off of offset those wheels will be a 0 offset for sure they didnt change til 91 to a more negative offset so if its 0 offset and the wheel is 6 inches its a 3 inch backspace wheel.

lmao all you want, but when you're physically measuring up different types of wheels for purposes of determining clearances and fitment, what are you using as a starting and ending point to determine the wheel's "offset"? Good luck striking center (offset reference point) on a solid dish wheel.

yeah i know but when you are shopping for wheels anymore they wont say much about backspace everything is done in offset. it is just something you need to know about even though it can be very hard to measure which is why it is usually stamped in newer wheels so you dont have to measure.

It's funny how it's changed back and forth over the years. In the "olden" days, we always referred to how much offset the wheels had. And more was better for getting the "deep dish" look. If they cleared the fenders, fine, otherwise jack up the rear. The first time I remember wheels being measured with backspacing is when front wheel drive cars with the zero offset (or close to) became popular. Now offset is the "in" measurement again....sheesh! No matter how the aftermarket rates the wheels, it's still easier to measure backspacing to compare.

yeah way easier to measure but at least they stamp offset but as longs as you can test fit a wheel before purchasing it you are fine and the really easy thing is most older cars are 0 offset

i beleive the fourth gen wheels will sit in further, not sure what offset of backspace it is. i do know that they have the same offset as s10/blazer wheels, and when i test fitted my camaro wheels on my blazer, they stuck out of the fenders about 3 inches. im hoping you understand what i mean. if all else fails, test fit before buying
