92 RS won't start Security System?
Guys, starter was starting to make noise. Was waiting till payday to get a new one. Today it wouldn't start. Turn key and it is just dead. No clicks, no crank. Got a new bench tested starter. Same problem. I'm thinking I have a security system issue that just surfaced at the same time the starter went bad. I cleaned resistor and reader in ignition switch with iso alcohol. Used spare key. Car won't start. All electrical works. So I don't believe it is a connection. Any ideas? I'm stumped right now.

Hmm. Security systems always seem to cause problems. I feel you, man.
I can't really think of much, after what you've tried. You're sure that all your connections, including battery terminals and the like, are good and tight?
If so, it'll take someone more knowledgable than I to help you, I'm afraid.

strange. I got a 681 ohm key. disconnected vats terminal and with key in OFF AND on get 677 ohms. good. i measured the ohms on the other disconnected terminal and get 560 oms. plugged in the connector and key off i get 808 ohms and key on 530 ohms at the connected vats connector. all connections to starter and battery awesome. i have power to everything. lights, horn radio etc. just turn the key and nothing.
should i get a gm 15 resistor kit and try a 530 ohm bypass????

I'll have to look for my blank key with no chip but I thought when I tried to start car with chipless key nothing worked,no key buzzer, gauges, radio, nothing, like battery was disconnected. mine is a 92 RS just like your's. Could be switch on bottom of column

are you talking about the ignition switch itself ?

i got an 87 thats doing basically the same thing. cept i got lights and gauges and all. last night was the first time it happened to me. ive also had some starter noise before this. but i go out this morning and it started right up drove her back home almost 2hrs parked her and the same thing.... it like when u leave it in drive and try starting. no sound from starter. could this be something getting hot after the long drive. would a bad starter cause this?
