Default 92 rs with older carbed 350. should i keep it?

i have a 92 rs with a 350 swap. the cast reads 14016379. i did some research and found out this is a older motor from the 70s. it currently has a 600 holley. the motor runs ok but leaves me constintly getting dusted by other cars. so my question is this... is this motor worth keeping and building or should i sell it, junk it, or give it away? my original intentions were to stroke to and or do a budget build but i was under the impression it was another engine. im kind of new to this but pick things up rather quickly. if you have experience with this motor or have seen it make decent numbers and or times please let me know what all was done to it and aprox cost. thanks

chris

The SB chevy truck is the same as the truck engine. Save up the money buy an Edelbrock Vortech type upper, heads, retro cam, and intake. You should be right at 400 to 425 hp. Mine was from an 84 model truck, put on the RPM heads, retro roller cam, with a Holley Stealth Ram.. Don't know what this combo makes I went with 10:3 comp and not 9:5. I think the Vortech heads make a few more ponies, plus made in USA....

you can purchase a top end kit for about $1200 or more. its high flow heads, cam, timing chain, lifter, intake, carb (possibly) and whatever else is needed. that coupled with a nice set of headers and you will be looking at an easy 350 hp, coupled with a set of 3.73 gears and a stock stall convertor can run you low 13's with no problems. the older 350's are better because the quality of the cast is better. i dont know casting numbers one bit, but do you know if its a 2 or 4 bolt main block?

The engine is from 1977-79. 2 or 4 bolt main. Could be from a passenger car, Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, or Monte Carlo. You won't know what it's from until you run the numbers on the front of the block. It could have potential.

Yeah, remove the oil pan instead. That's where the crankshaft main caps are hiding.
