More information please. Were you driving down the highway and it just completely shut straight off. Or did you come to start it and it wouldn't start?

Is your coil an old one or new?

That would be my next try. Sometimes a coil can work fine until it gets hot and overheats. Then it can make the ignition start to crap out or totally kill until it cools down some. I've had it happen twice on me, in two different vehicles (one crap out & one kill).

Sounds like the ignition module inside the distributor went south. You say you just replaced the cap, did you maybe damage the rotor when you put the new cap on?
