Its either a 2.77, 3.27, or 3.45, pull off the cover and inspect the gears, look for a tag or count the teeth of the gears to find out what gears it has.

You don't need to count the teeth, the gear & pinion numbers are stamped on the OD of the ring gear. Stock 1988 9-bolt ratio's are ONLY 2:77. 3:27 & 3:45 nothing else was available that year.

oh its stamped? good news. that will make it easy. is there any difference in those brakes that would be on it and the 1le package? im still considering doing that.

What difference. I thought they were the same brakes and the 1LE had dual piston front calipers.

1988 still had the iron caliper 10.5 rear brakes. 1989 9-bolts had the 11.655 dia rotors and PBR aluminumcaliper singlepiston rears. No such item as rear 1LE rear brakes, only the fronts. My opinion would be to look for a 1989 9-bolt rear with the better brakes, than $250 would be a good price.

i didnt know if they were different in the rear or not as well. i knew the front was different.

ill have a look around for those 89 9 bolt rear brakes. i suppose i would need a new bracket and rotor, but what about the caliper?

When I got my rear I was told it was from an 88 but it does have the PBR style brakes. May have been a late 88. Just look at the calipers. If they have a braket with a square weight on it bolted to the middle then they are the earlier and not so great. If the caliper is bolted to a braket and slides to adjust with wear like a front caliper then they are the later and better setup.

PBR brakes have a finned aluminum single piston caliper with a 11.655dia rotor anything else is the 10.5 style. Also, the caliper is mounted to the rear of the rotor on both sides. Vs the old style with oneside on the front and the other on the rear side of the rotors.
