the 700r4 is the same trans as the 4l60e (except the e part that electric) but your 700 wont work with the lt1 because its mechanical not electric so it wont shift right (if at all)

i have a 700r4 and lt1 in my 93. you can switch the lt1 to a carb and old school distributor. if you can find a 93 lt1 and trans with the computer and harness. it can be made to work. thing is the 93 was used in allot of builds because it has the 700r4 that is compatible with non electronic systems. so not allot of them out there.

the motor can be made to work, easier to carb it. you need to do some research on the install.

Install a carb style intake manifold: LT1 Carb Intake, add a carb, fuel pressure regulator, drop in a conventional distributor, and the engine is ready to go with no computer needed. Bolt on a 700R4 with the appropriate carb linkage for the TV cable, and you're pretty close to having it on the road.

It has been awhile but I am pretty sure the 89 700R4 does not have a "bell housing" it is a one pc tranny. So no matter what that would need replaced, Also GM configures all of its transmission based on the application. So a 700R4 sitting behind a L98 V8 will have differents clutch pack and even gears sets then one sitting behind a V6. So what I am saying is that even IF your 700R4 tranny had a bell housing it would last about 10 minutes behind a 300 hp LT1 because it was configured to deal with 146hp.
I am not sure why no one mentioned the motor mounts, your going to have to modify the motor mounts, SBC mount are a little different.
If you can find a V8 700R4 most of them came from car with less then 200hp so the stock ones will not hold up long. During a normal rebuild it is easy to upgrade the tranny to handle a stock LT1.
The fuel system will need swapped. The v6 fuel pump and lines are nowhere near big enough and for some reason I am thinking the 2.8 was a 60 PSI system but I have not worked on one for 20+ years.
