my car only dies when starting it. if it runs for a little bit or if i get it into gear it runs great. any thoughts?

 

if you have a mass air flow sensor check for a leak after the sensor and also take care of those vacuum leaks. need any more help let me know.

 

i dont know if this helps but on my aussie v8 304 simalar to a chev mine was doing this and i found it was a lose wire in the throttle postion sensor running in the loom, if you shook my loom the idle would go everywhere and would run liek crap, recrimp and shes fine. maybe ur has the same principal

 

I dunno if it could be a clogged cat... My 83 had a clogged cat and the car always ran... ran like **** but it ran. i mean it had no power. you put the gas to the floor and it would only get to 25mph

 

the same happened to my rs and all i did was change out the fuel regulator and it cured the problem the are probably around 100 dollars for you car and change the fuel filter

 

MSCOT77: Is this only on a cold engine? What grade gas are you using? I have an 89 with a 5.7 and this also happens to me occasionally on a cold start (over night ) I am using 89 OCT right now. Same situation though, when I get rollin, I keep rollin. No rough idel or anything else (fingers crossed now that I jinxed myself)
