Default '88 Camaro Engine Swap

Well i have had my '88 Camaro for about 6 months now
Unfortunately it is the 2.8L V6 Automatic Model
Once school ends for me I am lookin to put a V8 into it and my uncle has offered to GIVE me a 283 engine out of a '67 Impala
Anything thoughts on the swap?
Also I will need a transmission for it (preferrabley manual) - anybody know what transmissions would bolt up to the 283?
Also, any other thoughts please let me know
Thanks
-RJ

Well If Your Serious About The Change ... Unless This Motor Is Tight ... Why Don't You Rebuild It And Put Some Muscle In It Before You Make The Swap. Tear It Down And Have The Block Bored. Boring Will Make All The Difference In An Old Motor. It Will Be NEW Again So To Speak. Have The Heads Reworked ... New Seals And Valves Where Needed. Find You A Decent R/V Cam For It. Maybe A New Carb. Then make The Swap. You Will Be Alot Happier Than Just Slapping An Old Motor In It. Your Gonna Have To Change Motor Mounts, Alter The Crossmember And The Exhaust To Make The Switch. I'm Not Positive But, I Believe A 283 Will Bolt Up To That Tranny You Have. If You Take Some Time You Will Finish With Something You Will Enjoy Driving. Sick
