83 thermostat questions
Hi, I recently got a 1983 camaro, and this is my first car so I bought it with the knowledge that some wasn't working. The thermostat or if there's a more common name the thing that triggers the fan to come on. right now it has a manual switch to turn the electric fan on. I should also say that the car doesn't have the original engine or trans in it, it has a 350 in it. The wiring in this car is bad and when you look under the hood you quickly find wires not hooked up. I've spend a good amount of time under the hood looking at the wiring and where it all goes, and the cable leading out of the thermostat runs to a relay. Right now I need to get a new gasket for the area around the thermostat because coolant is coming out of it, its not enough to make me not want to drive it. I don't drive that much just I'd rather not burn the fan out. Sorry if I sound really new to this because as stated previously this is my first car. If anyone knows or just wants to ask questions, go ahead and ask. I might be jumping the gun on posting this because the carburetor needs some timing adjustment, and I haven't used a multi-meter to check if the wire coming from the thermostat has any power, and when I searched up the relay the store said it was obsolete so who knows what the problem is.
